A world of stories, for your classroom.
Mukashi's extensive-reading program for juku, eikaiwa, and schools.
Mukashi is a story-driven extensive-reading app where children travel illustrated worlds with Hoshi, a star spirit far from home. Students read leveled stories at exactly their ability. Teachers watch the whole class at a glance from the Teacher's Lantern. Lesson preparation takes care of itself. Complete beginners are welcome too: Mukashi Prep, phonics and forty first books, is included.
One subscription runs a full 50-minute lesson
About 30 min
Guided reading in the app
Read, listen, shadow, quiz, explore. Each student moves at their own pace, and nobody is left waiting.
Or read one book together: start Read together and every screen opens it, turning with you.
About 20 min
Printed worksheets
A full lesson plan for every book: vocabulary lists, tracing sheets, worksheets, activities. Print and go.
All the while
The Lantern watches
The teacher dashboard shows every student's progress and Eiken level. You always know who needs you next.
Four such lessons a week adds roughly 500 minutes of English immersion a month to your teaching.
Everything included. Nothing extra to buy
- The Teacher's Lantern: class management, per-student reports, small-group modes
- Read together: open a book and every screen in the class opens it too, following your pace. Hoshi’s questions appear on every screen, so you can call on anyone. When you finish, each student picks up exactly where they left off
- A program planned at 200+ stories, with new ones most weeks, all mapped to Eiken levels
- Every visible thing in the world can be tapped for visual learning. Objects on your students' Eiken curriculum are read aloud, then kept in Hoshi's Notebook for practice later
- A complete printable lesson plan per book: vocabulary lists, tracing practice, expanded questions, worksheets, activity sheets, talking points for class discussion, flash cards, and spelling tests
- Full audio for every book, for listening and shadowing practice
- Star Charts and A Letter from Hoshi: progress that children and parents can see
- Priority support, with replies within one school day
The Lantern raises its hand for you
The Teacher's Lantern is not a viewer. It is a full set of teaching tools.
- A child who has not read this week, or whose comprehension slips, surfaces at the top of the Lantern on its own. So does a child who is excelling. You never have to hover
- Every book ends with questions from Hoshi. To children they are part of the story, not a test. To you they are a mark book: every answer, ○ and ×, book by book, student by student
- Your notes live where you need them: on the class Word Cards, and on each student's Star Chart
- Classes, class codes, and seats are all self-serve. Add a student in seconds; archive one and the seat frees itself
- Prepare for Class gathers the words your class is about to meet: flash cards, spelling tests, and a certificate maker for the moments worth marking
- One tap opens any student's own lighthouse: their words, stars, letters, worksheets, and progress against the Eiken framework, all in one place
- Complete beginners start in Mukashi Prep: letter sounds, then forty short repeating books, then the stories when they are ready. The starting point is yours to set, per class or per student
The world keeps them coming back
Rewards arrive the way a friend gives gifts. Hoshi brings back things he found on his travels, stars gather in a jar, and a hidden room slowly becomes a museum of everywhere the class has been together. Through the year the world itself changes with the seasons, so there is always a reason to come back tomorrow.
The reading follows them home
Student accounts work at home too. Children want to find out what happens next, and parents can watch progress from their own dashboard, so the value of your classroom is visible at home. Schools fold Mukashi into tuition as a home-reading program, or offer it to families as an optional extra.

| Students 11 to 20 | ¥1,580/month |

Schools helping schools. When a school you introduce joins Mukashi, both schools’ renewals get ¥20,000 lighter.
