Terms of Service

1. The service

Mukashi is an English reading service for children: stories, illustrations, and progress tracking, delivered through a web browser.

2. Accounts and who is contracting

Accounts are created by a parent or educator. The agreement is between that adult and Mukashi, and a child uses the service under the responsibility of the adult who manages the account. A child does not enter into this agreement. Keep your login details safe.

3. Price and payment

Prices are listed on the pricing page and in the commercial disclosure. Subscriptions renew automatically on each renewal date. We will tell you before any price changes.

4. Cancellation

Cancel any time from your dashboard. Access continues until the end of the paid period. Reading records are kept for 24 months after you last use Mukashi, so if you return within that your child can pick up where they left off. We always write to you before deleting anything, and one tap keeps them for longer. See the Privacy Policy.

5. Right to cancel (customers in Europe)

Consumers in the EU have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. If you ask to start using Mukashi immediately when you sign up, you lose that right once we begin. Write to hello@mukashi.world with any question about it.

6. Content ownership

All stories, illustrations, characters (including Hoshi), audio, and design are the property of Mukashi. They may not be copied, redistributed, or resold beyond personal use at home or in your classroom.

7. Acceptable use

• No unauthorised access or interference with the service
• No copying or redistribution of content
• No transferring or lending accounts to third parties

8. Schools

Where a school uses Mukashi, the school decides what happens to its pupils' information and we handle it on the school's instructions. We will enter into a data processing agreement where one is needed.

9. Disclaimer

We work to keep Mukashi available, but maintenance or faults may interrupt the service temporarily. Our liability for any damages is limited to the most recent month's fee you have paid. That limit does not apply to our own deliberate acts or gross negligence, or to any liability that cannot be limited by law. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have as a consumer under the law of the country you live in.

10. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, we will post the new version here. Important changes will also be sent to your registered email.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the law where you live.
